Edinburgh Editing is an independent company based in Edinburgh, Scotland, owned by Alan Freeman, MA Honours, PGDE, PhD.
I studied English and Scottish Literature in my native Scotland, gaining an MA Honours from the University of Aberdeen, and a PhD from the University of Edinburgh. After lecturing and tutoring at the University of Edinburgh and Napier University in Scotland, in which time I was also Director of the Scottish Universities’ International Summer School, I lived in Istanbul, Turkey where I was an Assistant Professor in English Literature at Yeditepe University. While there I began editing work, on academic essays and dissertations in arts, social sciences and sciences, and articles for native and non-native English speaking clients, in particular Law offices in the city and for an Italian translation agency.
Among my academic publications are a book, several articles, and chapters in multi-authored books on literary topics; I have also contributed regular reviews of new poetry and fiction for literary journals.
My teaching has encompassed most areas of literature in English, ranging from medieval to postmodern, and includes American literature, cultural studies, and literary theory; I have taught essay-writing skills and writing in practical and creative genres to university students and in High School to pupils of diverse ages and backgrounds.
Published book: Imagined Worlds: Fiction by Scottish Women 1900 – 1935 (Peter Lang, 2004).
